What is a Gastroenterologist?

A Gastroenterologist is a specialist physician with training and experience in the management of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver.

Gastroenterology is the study of the function and diseases of the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver.

It includes conditions such as cancer, colon polyps, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, Inflammatory 

Bowel Disease (IBD, Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis. Nutritional problems, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation and iron deficiency anaemia.
